The Cherry Orchard
Wigs and Makeup
West Virginia University's production of The Cherry Orchard.
Director: Jerry McGonigle
Costume Designer: Mary McClung
Makeup Assistant: Jake Jarvis
Firs Makeup- First a life cast was taken of the actors head. Mary McClung and I both sculpted the prosthetics onto the life cast, and then made molds to run the appliances. Prosthetics were sculpted for the chin, the forehead, the nose, both cheeks, as well as eye bags. Hand were also sculpted but were cut after the first fitting. The eye bags were 3-D prosthetic transfers while the other appliances were ran in latex. Bald caps were also custom made by using the life cast. New prosthetics and bald caps were made daily for the run of the show. Jake Jarvis helped apply the appliances with me every night as well as assisted with the makeup application. A wig and facial hair were added to finish the character. More makeup was applied before the last scene to make Firs look sickly.
